The Cha-Cha Principle: Why One Step Back Is Not Failure

Nobody shows you the real map when you start a business.

They show you the highlight reel. The launch. The breakthrough. The moment everything clicked.

What they don't show you is what it actually looks like getting there.

Here's the truth: the entrepreneurial journey doesn't look like a straight line from A to B.

It looks like spaghetti.

I was at an event recently where one of my clients had a table at a business conference. Her branding colour is purple, so she filled her table with purple spaghetti and invited people to throw it against the wall.

Because that's what most people think marketing is, right? Throw enough at the wall and see what sticks.

But here's what she was really saying:

The messy, winding, non-linear path you're on? It's not a sign that something is wrong.

It's just what the journey actually looks like.

The moment you stop expecting a straight line you give yourself permission to wind, double back, and try again, everything gets a little lighter.

Here's where most entrepreneurs get into trouble.

➜ They hit a setback and decide it means something.

➜ They lose a client and think their business is failing.

➜ They invest in something that doesn't land and decide they made a terrible mistake.

➜ They take one step back and interpret it as proof that they don't belong here.

I know because I've been there.

And I've watched it happen to people in my community who are talented, heart-centered, and genuinely here to make a difference, but who let one difficult season convince them the whole journey was wrong.

A step back is not the end of the story.

It never was.

Here's the reframe I want to offer you today.

Taking one step back and two steps forward isn't failure.

It's a cha-cha.

Think about it. In the cha-cha, that one step back is part of the dance. It's not a mistake, it's built into the rhythm. You can't do the cha-cha without it. The two steps forward that follow? They're more powerful because of the step back.

That's what it looks like when you readjust your sails. When you realize something isn't working and you pivot. When you lose something that needed to go so something better could come.

You're not failing. You're dancing.

Here's what I know from every shitshow I've starred in, every retreat that went sideways, every client I had to release, as we were not aligned, every moment I wanted to give up:

When we drop, we never go back to exactly where we were before.

We go higher.

📈The Tuscany retreat where everything fell apart.

📈The moment I wanted to crawl under a rock and never come back, I didn't return to where I was before that trip.

📈I came back vibrating higher than I ever had. Within weeks I had attracted two new elite clients.

The step back became the launch pad.

The entrepreneurs I see struggling most aren't the ones facing the hardest challenges.

They do it alone.

Without anyone to remind them that the spaghetti is normal. That the cha-cha is part of the dance. That one step back doesn't mean stop, you're about to go forward twice as powerfully.

What changes everything is having the right people around you. Who've been through their own spaghetti and came out the other side. People who can look at where you are and say ↳ I see you. Keep going. This is part of it.

That's exactly what The Collective is built for.

Co-led by myself and Tavia Sharp - New York celebrity brand stylist and image activator. The Collective (A Community To Fuel Your Legacy Chapter) is an intimate, intentional community for heart-centered entrepreneurs 45+, who are done doing their beautiful Missions alone.

We meet twice a month. Intuitively & strategically guide.  We inspire each other. Make connections. We remind each other who we are when the spaghetti gets overwhelming.

Right now we're growing our next tier of members, I'd love for you to apply.
